About

Vale Christian Youth Work started in 2001 under the name ‘Vale Churches Youth Work’. The geographical area we cover is the deanery of the Vale of the White Horse (as defined by the Church of England). This covers approximately 160 square miles and has a population of around 13,000. The market town of Faringdon is the largest town with about 6000 inhabitants; the remainder of the Vale consists of many small villages. Often there is little provision for the 11+ age group or no suitable building in the locality. Within this area there are over 30 churches - many with few young people. Provision for this age group can sometimes present a challenge.

In March 2002 we launched the Cyber Bus, a double decker bus converted into a mobile Youth Centre. This includes a tuck shop, computing and games facilities as well as an area to sit and chat. Click on The Bus link to find out more.

One of our rolls is to support the local churches who have young people. We can provide them with advice and resources, as well as being available to take part in services. We also build up links with other local organisations, such as Youth for Christ, sometimes working in partnership with them.

In Late 2004 (as part of our preporation for charitable status) The name was officially changed to Vale Christian Youth Work.

As a Charity we are run by a Management Committee made up of members from local churches from a variety of denominations. The Commitee meets 5 or 6 times a year and has an Annual General Meeting in the autumn. Details of the AGM, which is an open meeting, will be posted on this website. Most of our support - financial, prayer and volunteer - comes from the local churches and from individuals.

We employ a Youth Worker, Simon Faulks, who joined Vale Christian Youth Work in June 2004. Simon is a qualified Youth Worker and a Church of England Licensed Youth Minister: He has almost 20 years' experience in Christian youth work. As a full time youth worker, Simon's time is split 50/50 between this work and All Saint's Church, Faringdon.
